Johnny’s Comeback Continues, Headed to the CFL

Johnny Manziel has continued his attempt to return to the NFL by signing a two year deal with the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the CFL. Following his successful showing at the spring league, he had hoped that a NFL contract would materialise but this wasn’t meant to be at this time.

Johnny isn’t guaranteed the starting job however. He will have to beat starting QB Jeremiah Masoli, who just had his contract extended by the Tiger Cats for two years for over $700,000 and included a signing bonus of $125,000.

These contract details mean that Johnny will be in the CFL for at least the next two years. If he doesn’t earn the starting job in Hamilton it would be a hard sell for him to re-join the NFL. At this point, his destiny is in his hands.

The formerly unemployed quarterback also announced that he is doing a weekly podcast with Barstool Sports called Comeback SZN, stating on the May 20th episode, “I can’t sit on my ass anymore. I can’t sit and watch another season of football go by and not be on the field playing. So I’m excited, I think it’s going to be a great opportunity, they’re excited and we’ll see where things go. You know, it’s not the easiest road back, but nevertheless it is a path.”

“We’re excited to add Johnny Manziel to our roster, particularly getting it done now so that Johnny can join his new teammates and the coaching staff for a full training camp,” said June Jones, Head Coach of the Tiger-Cats. “We feel like we’ve got an excellent group of quarterbacks, and the addition of Johnny only improves our football team in our pursuit of the ultimate goal, which is to win a Grey Cup Championship.”

Hamilton is on board the Johnny Football Train, time will tell if the train can stay on track.
