So that’s Round 1 done and as teams look to quickly to move onto Round 2 I take a look at who the form sides are and which ones really need a lift in my first weekly Power Rankings for 2018.

(Scroll right to within the grey area to read more…)

1. GWS (1-0)
Wow, they looked great in their demolition of the Dogs. Loved the form of Cameron, Greene, Coniglio, Shiel and of course Kelly, just Wow.

2. Sydney (1-0)
No 0-6 start this year and gee the Bud looks tuned in already. Great to see the midfield dominate with no Hannebery and Kennedy having an off night.

3. Geelong (1-0)
Knocked off a team many think will rise this year without their player and a their best defender sidelined after quarter time. Welcome back Gaz.

4. Essendon (1-0)
A great win for them in coming from behind against last years runners up basically without Z.Merrett for three quarters and no impact from Daniher.

5. Richmond (1-0)
Tough to know what to really make of their victory, their stars played well and they got the job done but it was only against Carlton, or will that mean something this year.

6. Port Adelaide (1-0)
The Recruits fitted in well, the other stars looked good and Robbie Gray is back this week. The Ryder injury is a big issue moving forward though.

7. Hawthorn (1-0)
Big second half saw them smash the Pies. Tom Mitchell outstanding and James Sicily looks right at home in defence.

8. St Kilda (1-0)
Some good sign with Acres & Billings playing well and was great to see Jack Steven return to his best. Can the Forward line work with the Big 3 or will one be forced out.

9. Gold Coast (1-0)
Well they have got one win for 2018 and it was without any goals from Tom Lynch. The big question is now can they back it up.

10. Melbourne (0-1)
Classic Melbourne loss really but there were still plenty of good signs, not least the form of Christian Petracca and the debut of Bailey Fritch.

11. Carlton (0-1)
Curnow, Cripps and Simpson were all outstanding for the Blues and although nothing in the win column it was a good performance. Big game this week.

12. Brisbane (0-1)
Could be another long season for the Lions but at least now there are some signs that the turnaround is not as far off.

13. West Coast (0-1)
Their forward line was dangerous and still has a dual Coleman Medalist to be added, the issue will be getting it down there enough as the midfield struggled and they could not contain the Budweiser.

14. Adelaide (0-1)
Mightn't seem like the end of world losing to one of last years finalist away from home without some of their stars. But they were thrashed in that last quarter and face the prospect of going 0-2 against the reining premiers this week.

15. Collingwood (0-1)
Bucks starting to make a habit of letting opposition mids set records. Darcy Moore back was ok but the forward line is still a debacle.

16. North Melbourne (0-1)
Let an opportunity slip (or sink) on the weekend in the wet. Can't help but feel this will be a tougher year than last for the Kanga's

17. Fremantle (0-1)
People calling for drastic team changes after and round is never a good thing let alone the first round. Pressure really on Ross to rebuild quickly.

18. Western Bulldogs (0-1)
Straight up they were disgraceful. Plus the Libba injury just adds further insult to an already shocking day.
